No longer we live disconnected for Christ, or, or, or whether it’s a rebellious or even a religious type situation, we may not know ourselves. We begin to identify that which is working for us. And it may not be our true self as we grow in understanding, right, being transformative, renewing of our mind, God can help us put off the old self and put on the new or your true self

TAGLINE: Created on purpose and for purpose.

Cut the buttons back. You’re like, Daron, what? Have my buttons back. This is my first time listening to your freaking podcast. I didn’t know you had 112 episodes. Actually, I don’t know where we’re at right now, a hundred something, right? But we used to have an old set right here at the, at the podcast studio, which is a lush situation. Uh, think like, think Fox Studios like MGM Paramount, you know, Universal Studios. Think of that kind of deal. And then remove everything from that thought. And that’s our studio. This looks amazing what you guys look at. What I look at is a very small office, uh, in the keystone area of, of Indianapolis, but it’s all smoke and mirrors here. Anyway, hey, we’ve, uh, this is our brand new set. I talked about it last episode. If you missed it, go back and watch it.

Uh, if you’re not watching the podcast, I, I had a strong plea in the last episode. Please take a minute, uh, just, just out of the kindness of your heart, right? Take a minute, go over to YouTube and subscribe to the podcast channel, uh, to make a huge difference in our ability to reach people all over the world. Uh, plus we put a lot of work into recreating the studio, and we’d just love for you to see it. Maybe hit us up with a message, be like, looks cool, or be like, I hate it. Like the other one. If you say that, we’re not gonna listen to you. Cause we love the way this one looks. Anyway, but I wanna thank PJ and, and, uh, Darren Cooper for, uh, for their brilliant design and hard work, getting the studio going. And I would love it when you watch it, when you comment on it.
And so, um, but we, I always have used to have the, the road cast here. And I could make all the buttons. I could make sound effects. And, and then it was gone for, for like a long time. I couldn’t, couldn’t touch it. It was on the ground. Now I got the buttons. We’ll have fun to see if I can’t make you laugh, uh, with stupid buttons. Anyway, week two of this renewal series we’re doing, and this week, um, in the whole concept, right? It’s spring flowers are coming out, grass is greener. You’re probably getting wrapped to mow. And, uh, and this is my heart’s desire for myself. This is my heart’s desire for you as a podcast, uh, listener or watcher. And, um, as we talked about in the last episode, I believe beyond a shadow of a doubt, it’s God’s will for your life to lead you into seasons of renewal.

Even better than that, I actually think it’s God’s will, that your life would be continually being renewed, as we said in the last episode, right? Jesus promised this. He said, listen, we don’t, we don’t need to deal with these, these, these broken cisterns that can’t hold water. What I’m offering you is when you stay connected with me, streams of living water, my spirit will bring fresh, revived, renewed life to your spirit continuously. That’s what I want. That’s what I’m trying to experience. I’m hoping to inspire you to step into the same process. So we talked about that last week. This week we’re gonna go to the next step, which is about replace right? To renew. There are oftentimes we have to replace another definition from renewal, the replacing or repair of something that is worn out, run down, or broken, right? To renew ourselves, there has to be a replacement or repair of something that’s worn out, worn down, or broken.

And the question I want to ask you, it’s a question I ask when I’m teaching the spiritual d n a workshop. Um, and, um, it comes from some of the wisdom of the Enneagram, one of the, the, the sessions we take you through in spiritual d n a, which is, this is what is doing work for you in life, but not working out for you. Let me ask the question again so you can think about it. What is doing work for you in life, but not working out for you? Let me unpack this in each one of our, our types, whether you’re type 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, or nine. Um, there is a persona that comes along with that, okay? For me, I’m a type seven on the engram. So a a a lot of my persona, right? Is one of the, one of the, um, the mottoes for a type seven on the engram is more, is better.

So I’m, I’m extroverted, I’m big, I’m loud, I, I I I love, I love excess, right? Like, when I eat things like I love condiments, right? Some people love their food dry. I don’t, okay? I put ranch on spaghetti, okay? I want you to realize that. Okay? I’m just confessing it right here. My whole family does that. I’ve, I’ve discipled them all in this process, right? Cuz you got spaghetti, you already got all the spaghetti sauce, but that’s not, it’s not, it’s not wet enough. I need more condiments in spaghetti. You just dress a little ranch on top, boom, you’re welcome. It’s gonna change your life forever. Okay? You know what else you can use? Ranch on lasagna. Okay? Just a little drizzle on top of lasagna. Put it over the top. Okay? If you haven’t experienced pizza with some ranch on it, Tuda, hello.

Basically it’s anything Italian you add ranch. You just became it amazing. Okay? That’s not even a word. Laugh track. Boom. Using buttons, , okay, sorry, coming back. Um, what made him talking about, oh, more is better, right? I got buttons. I love it all. Okay, now here’s the problem with, is it, are we still kind to laugh? That laugh track is really long. That was not that funny. That’s like a 16 second laugh, um, in this works for me, right? It just worked. I think, I hope maybe you just turned the podcast off, but my more is better life. It does work for me. It gives me time to be funny. It gives me attention. It gets me the affection of people. It does work for me. Guess what? It’s also not working out very well. The majority of things in my life that God tends to come in and gently nudge me of like, Hey, maybe not are usually things that I’m doing in excess that I need to replace with discipline.

Okay? And, uh, and self-control. That’s me for a seven. That’s not gonna be your case if you’re not a seven. And that’s one of the reasons I love teaching people. The Enneagram help them. They, they’ve grown that in spiritual d n if you haven’t taken spiritual d n a, right? You head over spiritual dna.com. Start your journey today. Um, but each one of us, one thing I love about it is it really helps us to, to, to discover where is my probably pretty specific personal growth plan. Each, each, uh, type has a core sin, right? Uh, for the the seven, it’s gluing. And this is something that God’s come to me and said, listen, Daron, if we’re gonna renew, we’re going to have to replace some things that are worn out, that are broken, that aren’t working out for you. And as I’m saying this, I’m gonna go out on a limb and say, there’s something that’s popped into your mind that you realize, yeah, that’s not working out very well.

And here’s where you, you, you, you find the places that aren’t working out well, like I said in the last episode, your life is relationships. So where you see relational strain in your life is probably evidence of something that’s not working out real well. And it’s probably hidden in the shadow of one of your greatest strengths. Something about you that does work for you. It gets you the attention, it gets you the affection, it gets you the power it gets you. The esteem gets you something you need and want out of life. But if you’re honest in a lot of your relationships taken to an extreme, it’s not working out for you and it’s not working out for you and others, the truth is probably this too. It’s probably not working out real well in your relationship with God. All right? Remember last episode, it’s vertical and then it’s horizontal.

That’s your life. So, uh, I wanna get just real vulnerable with you. Um, so where God came to me this year actually, where God came to me about three years ago, gentle nudges, like we talk about three years ago, he said, Hey, you know what? I don’t know if it’s working out real well for you. I don’t know if drinking is working out for you. And I was like, Hmm, you know what? God, that’s an interesting perspective. I’ll get back to you on that, right? Because I love a good party. You’re like, Daron, you’re a pastor. Shouldn’t you be more respectable? Probably, probably should be, but I’m just gonna be real with you, okay? I love a good party, okay? I love celebrations. I love weddings, I love concerts. I love anything with a lot of people. Add some music. Just the need to have a blast that put me there six days a week, I’ll at least sleep once or sometimes when I’m dead.
Okay? And this has been great for me. It works for me. People like me at their party. I meet a lot of people at parties, it’s great. But I had to keep looking at my life in the moments where I have a go. Hmm, I could be prouder of myself in that moment. Hmm. My reaction or response in the environment didn’t really build strength and trust in some of my relationships. These were moments, these were times that were not contributing to the renewal of my spirit, like we’re talking about. So about three years ago, guy said, Hey, what do you think about this? And um, for three years I was like, yeah, God, maybe we’ll, we’ll we’ll look into that. You know, did some dabbling with it here or there. And got to this year, God said, Hey, renew, receive. And I knew three years ago, four years ago, whatever it was, when God said, Hey, how about renew is one of your words?

I knew that’s one of the things he meant back then, right? To take and to replace or repair something that was worn out, run down or broken. And I knew that the, the, the, the top of my shoulder guy was saying, Hey, listen, your, your relationship right with alcohol is a little broken. It’s a little worn out and we need to replace that so we can come into renewal. Like, this is working for you, but it’s not working out for you. And so the replacement that I’ve done this year, and, and listen, please, please hear me. This is not me trying to brag. This is not me. Like, look at me. What could I’m doing? Like honestly, this is kind of embarrassing. Like, let’s just start there, right? Like, I’m just kind of embarrassing myself and being vulnerable to you on the podcast, cuz I wanna invite you into this kind of space for yourself because these are the issues that are keeping you from spiritual renewal, which is God’s will for your life, which is where he wants to take you, which is where you really want to go.

Because on the backside of this is, is the revival on the backside of this is the joy, the peace, the patience, the kindness, the goodness, the gentleness of self-control, the stuff that brings you alive that you want to live in. They’re on the other side of this replacement and it’s gonna be different for all of us. One of my friends said to me, uh, last month, and I don’t know where he, where he researched this phrase from me, he said this, if nothing changes, nothing changes, right? And, and that you’re like, oh, oh, that was really, how long do you think to write that one down, Daron? Like, it’s not brain surgery in that way, but it’s true. Look at your life. You say, you know what? There’s parts of my life relationally, mentally, emotionally, spiritually, where it’s worn out, right? It’s broken, it needs replaced.

You go, okay, well have you changed anything? Like, like literally replaced any habits, any, any, any relationships, any discipline. Because if you’re at a place where you realize this is not working, I need to replace it. Well, here’s the deal. If nothing changes, nothing changes. And you can mentally agree with me. I mentally agreed with God for three years. You’re right. God, that is totally correct. Thank you for that sound advice. I mean, I know you did create the whole world and you probably know what you’re doing. Uh, we appreciate that and I agree, but nothing’s going to change because I didn’t wanna change. The great thing about God is that in this three years, you know what he didn’t do, God didn’t show up and shame me. God didn’t show up and condemn me. God’s mercies were new every morning. He was loving, he was gentle, he was kind, he was compassionate.

And he would show up regularly and once again, just gently nudge, Hey, I got more for you. And you know that that excitement you get in your spirit, that you can, you know, it’s from me. Yeah. We gotta fix some of the brokenness inside of you to really get to that place of renewal. So we’re, we’re gonna need to replace, we’re gonna need to replace some stuff in your life. And I’m happy to say that, you know, what are we in four months into the year? I, I haven’t drank in four months. And you know what’s really cool? I love it. Like I realized I’m not more social. I’m actually, when I drink, I’m actually less social and I’m having more fun and I’m more engaged and like I’m cognizant and tied into everything that’s happening around me and that what God might be saying to other people. And like, I realized, oh my goodness, God, you had this for me three years ago. Three years ago. You’re like, Hey, we’re gonna do this renewal thing. I got some stuff I wanna bring into your life. I want you to be ready for it. And I was like, yeah, well I don’t trust you. It’s basically what I was saying, right? But I don’t trust you, God, I think you’re gonna ruin my life, right?
And what this looks like, I’ve been reading another book by his guy named Tyler Stanton and I should have written down the book. It’s called something, it’s awesome. Something about a highwire or something. I don’t know. It’s really good. . Just research. Tyler Stanton, you’ll like our staton. S t a t win his book Scrape. Anyway, it comes down to this is what we have placed the center of our life. That’s not God. This builds on what Jesus was talking about last week, right? The like, listen, I, I I want to be here and I, I’m, I’m the streams of living water for you, but, but you forsaken me, right? And, and you’ve taken these broken systems, you’re in the retention pot again. And what I had to realize is that there were certain things that for me, I had replaced God with. Like if God comes and nudges me and I know it’s God for three years, but I don’t do what I know he’s telling me to do, it tells me that God’s not sinner of my heart, right?

Guess who was me , right? What I wanted, how I wanted to do it, how I wanted to live in it doesn’t have to be drinking for you, right? It doesn’t need nec. I mean, cuz drinking itself is not a sin. I’m not saying this is a sin, right? Not necessarily a sin issue for you. But there’s something that God right now is nudging and go, you know what? That needs to be replaced. And here’s the deal. You can wait another three years and, and he won’t force you to do it. Um, here’s the the thing that really scared me. And, and I’m not trying to be scary. I could use the scary music here. Little scary music, uh, scary music in the background. I’m not trying to be scary, but here is something that did scare me. I wasted three years of what God could have been doing to renew me and, you know, what I could have done wasted my whole life.

Like this story could be. Yeah. And then 30 years later I decided, and you know what would be really sad? We’re replacing what is worn out, what is run down, what is broken? And if remember when I said you’re going to find those broken things probably in relationships, I’m so glad that I’m four months into what I’ve replaced this year because I don’t want to live in the life that I probably would’ve created 30 years from now if I wouldn’t have said to God, you know what? God, you’re right, I’m wrong. You’re God, I’m not. I’m gonna replace this. I’m gonna hit you with a couple scriptures to help us think about this. Cuz I, in the replacing right, there’s two parts. There’s a taking off, but there’s also a pudding on. And I wanna unpack this idea of putting on, uh, right after this quick break.

We’ll be right back. A quick commercial break here on the podcast. I wanna tell you a story about a conversation I had a couple weeks ago with a faithful podcast listener like yourself. We started talking about spiritual dna, the online course that I’ve created that helps you discover who you were born to be. And I said, Hey, have you gone through spiritual DNA yet? And I’m assuming I listen to the podcast like, hasn’t everyone gone through spiritual dna? N they said, you know what, no, I haven’t. And I said, well, why not? And I said, I just, I haven’t gotten around to it yet. Uh, but I really want to discover who God’s created me to be. So if that’s you, today’s your day, here’s what you need to do. I need you to go to daronearlewine.com/spiritualdna. That’s where you can get the course.

And I want to give you a discount cuz you’re part of the podcast family. So once you go to buy the course, go to the promo code and use promo code podcast. You’re gonna get percent off the course today. All right? That’s your next step. Do it. darwin.com/spiritual dna. Use promo code podcast and start your journey today. Discover who you were born to be. All right, let’s get back to the episode. And we’re back. Yeah. Had a little commercial break. Did you like that? Did you go get a coffee? Maybe, huh? Little refresh on the tea. Whatever you’re drinking. Okay. Hey, welcome back. We’re talking about this idea of of, of putting off and putting on, this is the replacement process. And I wanna un unpack this and I wanna read actually two uh, scriptures to you, and then probably close out, uh, because guess what?

The word of God actually is better than me. I , I, I I do believe that. I hope you do too. I’m gonna read you some scripture. Uh, the apostle Paul’s gonna say this, uh, way better than I can to, to help you understand this. Because there’s two elements of this, right? There is the replacing. There is a a taking off, right? But in its absence, there has to be a pudding on Jesus. You know, uh, tells a, uh, an analogy, a story just popped into my head. I don’t have the scripture for you. Sorry. You’ll have to Google it. It talks about, you know, the idea of, um, if a demonn is cast out of someone, right, but the room is left empty, right? That the demonn can return and ring like seven more demons or something like that. Uh, isn’t that right guys?

That sound good? Right? That’s scripture, right? Remember that? That’s in there, right? It’s in there. Summer, you can Google it is, it’s great to remove, right? It’s great to, to, to, to take off. But the replacement is the key. It’s not just removal. I’m just gonna remove the bad. Whatever this habit is, whatever this thing is, whatever this attitude is, whatever this cycle that I’m in that I need to, to, to take outta my life, it’s not just I remove something, it’s replacing, it’s a taking off of the old, taking on the new. Okay? I’m gonna read you the scripture from Colossians chapter three, where Paul says it like this. It’s literally entitled, put on the new Self. He says this, if you’ve been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above where Christ is seated at the right hand of God. Set your mind on things that are above, not on things that are on earth for you’ve died and your life is hidden with Christ in God.

When Christ who is your life appears, then you also will appear with him in glory. Then he gets a little down in the nitty gritty here, put to death. Therefore, what is earthly in you? Sexual immorality, impurity, passion, evil, desire, and covetousness, that’s a hard word to say. Covetousness. Covetousness, I’ll keep practicing, which is idolatry. On account of these, the wrath of God is coming in. These two you once walked when you were living in them, but now you must put them away, right? You gotta replace them. Anger, wrath, malice, slander and obscene. Talk from your mouth. Do not lie to one another. Seeing that you have put off the old self with its practices and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge after the image of its creator, right? The, the thinking of it. Like he starts off there, right?

And talks about that, that we, we put our, our mind on things above this process. That we put these things out because we’re being renewed in the knowledge, right? Renewed, transformed by the renewing of our minds and what we think of and putting on this new self in Christ. Jump down to verse 12. Put on then as God’s chosen, ones holy and devoted, compassionate hearts, kindness, humility, meekness and patience bearing with one another. And if one has a complaint against the other, forgiving each other as the Lord has forgiven you, you so you also must forgive. And he says this, and above all these things, put on love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony. And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts to which indeed you were called in one body. And be thankful. Let the word of Christ dwell in you.

Richly teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom. Seeing songs and hymns and spiritual songs with thankfulness in your heart. And whatever you do in Worder deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him. This idea of putting on the new self. I’m gonna go back real quick. I’m gonna read you one more passage and, and we’ll be done. I’m gonna read passage from Ephesians chapter four. When we talk about the wisdom of the Enneagram, we talk about the idea of your true self and your false self. And this is that working but not working out for me. The idea of of of who’s in the center of my life, right? Is it me? Is it my ego? Is it the, some of the, the, the things that the scripture talks about? That’s my false self.

That doesn’t mean that it feels false to me. And the longer we live disconnected for Christ, or, or, or whether it’s a rebellious or even a religious type situation, we may not know ourself. We begin to identify that which is working for us. And it may not be our true self as we grow in understanding, right? Being transformative, renewing of our mind. God can help us put off the old self and put on the new or your true self. Okay? This is what centering prayer is helping me do. This is just another research for you, right? One of the ways that a seven can grow is through silence, solitude, and stillness. So that’s why I believe God’s been leading me to the centering prayer, right? In these moments, the way I center myself is just with the word true, right? And I don’t talk, I just sit there.

I just kind of repeat the word true to myself to get centered in with what God’s spirit wants to do. Why? Because I want to be renewed in my mind, in my spirit, by God’s spirit. I want streams of living water to flow through me. And I want to get to the place right where God is doing, what only he can do to actually replace what is old, what is tired, what is worn out, and put on the new self within me. If this sounds weird to you or like spiritual gibberish, it’s not, the more you can embrace the fact that you are a spiritual being in a physical body, this will feel so much more natural to you, right? Because someday this will be put off, this is turning back to dust. This is not who you are, right? You are so much more than 46 physical chromosome.

That’s what we talk about in spiritual d n a. You have a spirit that longs to connect with God. That’s why you’re thirsty. And he is promised to quench that thirst. We do that. We begin to live as children, as light as Paul says in Ephesians four. He says it like this, Ephesians four, uh, verse 17 through 24, in the new living translation with the Lord’s authority, I say this, live no longer as Gentiles do when he means theirs by unbelievers, right? For they are hopelessly confused, their minds are full of darkness. They wonder far from the life God gives because they have closed their minds and hardened their hearts against them. They have no sense of shame. They live for lustful pleasures and eagerly practice every kind of impurity, right? It might be working for them like you may have been around somebody that does some of those things and you go that person’s alive at the party.
Like, I like that guy. He’s a lot of fun. He gets a lot of attention. He’s on movies, he’s what, whatever it is, he got promoted at work, right? But there’s a part of that that’s not working out for him. He says this, but this isn’t what you learned about Christ. Since you have heard about Jesus and have learned the truth that comes from him, throw off your old sinful nature in your former way of life, which is corrupted by lust in deception. Instead, let listen to this here. Instead, let the spirit renew your thoughts and attitudes. Put on your new nature created to be like God, truly righteous and holy. I’m gonna hit you with those two again. Instead, let the spirit renew your thoughts and attitudes. Put on your new nature created to be like God, truly righteous and holy. It all starts with your thoughts, right?

We’re transformed by the renewing of our minds as we remain in God’s word. The Bible remain in worship, remain in community, remain connected to him doing the things that God does in this process. He renews us, right? His spirit renews us. It renews our thinking, renews our attitudes. Once our thinking and rea attitudes begin to be renewed, all of a sudden our actions begin to follow him. Hey, this may have been the deep end of the pool and uh, I’m not sorry for that because listen, uh, God has more for you. God has more for me. And, um, and what I’m beginning to see, and I wanna hope you see is I said in last episode, right? My, my phrase for the years renew and receive. And what I believe God’s saying is, Hey son, I’ve got some things that I need you to be ready to receive.
And right now they’ve been positive things. Uh, some of these commitments, some of these commitments, the commitment with alcohol that I made to replace, it’s crazy guys. I’m not joking that there’s sometimes that, that I’ve made some of these commitments and it’ll be 24, 48 hours after I, you know, commit and actually obey God that something positive comes into my life, right? For me. Like I get booked to speak at a new place that I’ve been, you know, wishing for or this some kind of outward blessing shows up or a blessing shows up relationally for me. And all of a sudden I’m like, oh, you’re actually for me, not against me. I say it every freaking week on the podcast. I still don’t believe it most of the time. Like, you really are for me. Oh, you’re actually working in this. And so right now I believe God’s got me at a place where I’ve replaced this.

I’m putting on the new, right? I’m being renewed cuz I think he has some things that I wouldn’t have been able to carry with character and consistency had I not replaced myself at the center of my life and put God there. It could be tough things like I don’t think any of us hope for suffering or struggle, but I’m not gonna, I’m not gonna sit here and be some, you know, prosperity gospel guy and, and just on on the podcast, there may be some difficult things that God’s gonna bring into my life that I need to be ready to receive. Right?

And the truth may be same for you. Here’s what I know, or here’s what I’m being reminded of and I’m trying to make myself believe God is for me. He’s not against me. He wants to renew me from the inside out. He wants me to receive great things. He wants me to walk in his power and his strength. And um, but that comes down to some times where bottom line, some things that are broken and worn down, they gotta be replaced. So I’m gonna encourage you, if you hear God’s voice, don’t delay. If you’ve been putting off repentance and you have put off obedience for a couple years, lemme tell you something, you’re just wasting time. Don’t waste your life. Uh, I wish I could get the past three years back to live what I’m living right now. And, um, uh, yeah, he’s not trying to screw you over. He really is for you. So, um, respond, uh, cuz your renewal is on the backside of this replacement. Love you guys. It’s a joy to be with you. Would love to hear from you. Text me 317-550-5070. Email me Daron@blackbirdmission.com or hit me up on any of the socials. Would love to stay connected and, uh, help you take your next steps in this renewal process.

Love you, appreciate you. We’ll talk to you next time right here on the Daron Earlewine Podcast.
